Why don't I see data populating on the dashboard or reports?

There can be multiple reasons why you can't see certain data populating.

Check 1. Your account was just connected — data takes time to appear

Once your Google Ads account is connected and the tracking template is applied, it typically takes up to 30 minutes for the first data to appear. The speed depends on your campaign activity — accounts with higher click volumes will see data populate faster.

Google Ads data is not reported in real-time. TrafficGuard syncs Google Ads data once per day, so:

  • Data for the current day might appear empty until the next sync.

  • If you completed setup today, wait up to 24 hours for data to begin populating.

  • Once synced, your dashboard and reports will reflect the previous day's activity.

Check 2: Your tracking template may be overridden

TrafficGuard receives click data from Google Ads via an account-level tracking template. This is Google's standard method of passing click information to third-party platforms.

If you have tracking templates set up at a lower level — such as at the campaign, ad group, keyword, or creative level — Google will prioritise those over the account-level template. This means TrafficGuard won't receive click data and your dashboard will remain empty.

Note: If you have Google Ads tracking set up at a lower level (keyword, campaign, ad or ad group), Google will prioritise these over TrafficGuard's account-level tracking, and we will not be able to track Google Ads data.

How to fix this

If your lower-level tracking templates use parameters starting with {lpurl}, you can resolve this without losing your existing setup:

  1. Copy the parameter value from the tracking template field (excluding the {lpurl} macro).

  2. Paste it into the Final URL Suffix field at the same level.

  3. Clear the tracking template field at that level.

This allows TrafficGuard's account-level tracking template to fire correctly while your original parameters remain in place via the Final URL Suffix.

Special cases

  • If you have an existing tracking template at account level in Google Ads please follow this article.

  • If you have SA360 please follow this article.

Check 3. Your date range may not include data yet

Check that the date range filter in your dashboard is set to a period after your Google Ads connection was completed. Data is only available from the date TrafficGuard's tracking template went live — there is no historical data before that point.

Check 4: Your TG site tag may not be installed (recommended)

The TG site tag enables TrafficGuard to analyse page-view data from your website alongside click data from Google Ads. While not required for the Google Ads connection to work, installing it improves detection accuracy.

If you expect to see site-level data in your reports and it's missing, check that the tag is correctly installed:

  1. Go to Account details → Property settings and click on your property.

  2. The TG site tag is shown in the property side panel. It should be placed in the <head> tag of every page on your website.

If you need help installing the site tag, see the relevant guide:

Still no data after 24 hours?
