Search dashboard: Understanding your traffic

Written by TrafficGuard Support

Search dashboard is designed to give you a clear, data-driven view of your ad performance and protection status.

When you first log in after onboarding, you will see a Demo experience. This allows you to explore our features and see exactly how your data will be visualized before you even connect your Google Ads account.

Dashboard states: Demo vs. Live

1. Demo mode (initial state)

Immediately after onboarding, your dashboard populates with pre-defined demo data. This allows you to explore the product's value without waiting for a live connection.

  • The demo banner: A sticky notification at the top confirms you are viewing sample data.

  • Action required: Click "Connect Google Ads" in the banner to transition from simulation to real-time protection.

  • Status bar: Displays "Demo account" with a "Connected" status and "Detection" mode locked. This simulates how a healthy, active connection appears.

2. Live account state

Once you link your Google Ads account, the demo data is replaced by your actual campaign performance.

  • Real-time insights: The "Demo" banner and labels disappear, and the data reflects your specific traffic, spend, and threat landscape.

  • Active protection: You gain the ability to toggle between Detection (monitoring) and Prevention (active blocking).

Key metrics

The dashboard is organized to highlight where your money is going and how much of it is being saved from invalid activity.

Hero metrics

Located at the top, these 4 cards provide an instant pulse check on your ad health:

  • Invalid cost / Projected savings: See exactly how much budget was at risk or saved from fraudulent clicks.

  • Invalid vs. Valid click rate: A side-by-side comparison showing the percentage of your traffic that is genuine human engagement versus bot or "junk" activity.

  • Total ad spend: Your total ad investment over the selected period.

  • IPs detected/blocked: A running tally of suspicious entities our system has identified and restricted from seeing your ads.

Traffic health chart

This time-series visualization tracks your click activity day-by-day. By toggling Invalid and Valid clicks, you can spot spikes in suspicious activity—often correlating with new campaign launches or specific times of day—allowing you to see exactly when the "noise" is affecting your "signal".

Threat type overview

Not all invalid traffic is the same. This section breaks down the why behind the blocks:

  1. Non-incremental engagement: Loyal or "lazy" existing customers who use paid ads as a shortcut to your site rather than searching organically.

  2. Bots, hosts, and malware: Non-human traffic and automated scripts that mimic real users but provide zero business value.

  3. Non-genuine engagement: High-risk users who lack clear intent or fail validity checks, making them unlikely to ever convert.

Top keywords

This identifies which specific keywords are attracting the most invalid traffic.

💡Tip

Use the "Lower bids" recommendation for high-risk keywords. This reduces your financial exposure to bots while keeping your budget available for high-performing, "clean" keywords.

Navigation & controls

  • Date picker: Defaulted to "Today," but fully adjustable. In Demo mode, the range is limited to the sample data set; in Live mode, you can pull historical reports to see long-term trends.

  • Settings: Accessible via the gear icon in the status bar to manage your account details and connections.
