TG parameters are required on all Meta ads with a website location so that we can accurately track and report on ads within individual ad accounts and campaigns.

We do this automatically upon onboarding your Meta accounts, however, in some instances not all ads can be updated successfully via the API. This is often due to issues like unsupported creative image dimensions, missing page permissions or an API unsupported campaign type.

When this happens the simplest and quickest option to get your ads protected by TrafficGuard is to add these tracking parameters via your Meta Ads Manager.

Steps to manually append tracking parameters

  1. Select the Ads:

  • Navigate to your Meta Ads Manager.

  • Go to the Campaigns tab.

  • Select the Ads tab.

  • We need to add TG URL parameters only to ads that belong to Ad sets with Conversion Location as a website and have a status of Active or Pending.

    1. Click on the Filters button.

    2. Under Conversion Location, select Website.

    3. Under Ad Delivery, select both Active and Pending.

    4. Apply the filters to view only the relevant ads.

    5. Select the specific ads you want to update.

    6. Click on the edit dropdown menu.

2. Modify URL Parameters:

  • Choose the URL Parameters option from the dropdown.

  • Update the URL parameters only without altering any other elements of the ad

    • Paste the below URL parameters into all URL parameters fields:

      tg_pid=[REPLACE_WITH_PROPERTY_ID]&tg_cid={{campaign.id}}&tg_crid={{ad.id}}&tg_csid={{adset.id}}&tg_sid=facebook_ads&tg_spid={{site_source_name}}&tg_plid={{placement}}

    • If there are existing URL parameters, please paste the TrafficGuard parameters to the beginning of the existing URL parameters instead of replacing them.

    • After making the changes, click on the Save to Draft button.

Note your Property ID can be found in TrafficGuard by navigating to your Account Group > Property groups and copying the group identifier.

3. Review and Publish:

  • Select the ads again.

  • Click on Review and Publish in the top-right corner of the screen.
